There was a good attendance for the second day's racing at Greenmcadows and the sport provided was quite up to the standard. In tho Hack Hurdles, the bracketed pair, Merrie Lad and Larusdorff, were made fnTourite, but Seamen, who jumped better to-day, was always handy over tho concluding six furlongs, * and coming away at the turn he ran in a comfortable winner. Stourton, was in charge for a mile, but when Seamen challenged him he stopped very quickly. Merrie- Lad ran well under his big weight, but tired at the finish and Fond Memory just headed him on the post. Lind, who rode the winner, showed a lot of judgment and had his mount on the fence throughout. A favourite turned up in the Telegraph Handicap when Thrave led a big field past th-3 post. Makara and Parktide gave a lot of bother at tho barrier, but when tho tapes were released it was Easy who got the advantage. With two furlongs gone Easy led Thrave, Parktide, and Makara with Grandee last. At the turn home, Thrave took charge and won easily from Makara with Parktide, Parewanui and Arohnku in a line. The big handicap resulted in the finest finish ever scon on the loeal course. Five horses dashed past the post in what appeared to be a perfect line and no one but the judge could tell which horse had won. From a splendid start in front of the stand'Seatondale and Aberbrothock led with Composed as usual slow to find hisfeet. Down the back the field bunched, and. at tho five-furlong post Vi and :'ere Mere were showing the way to Aborui'othock and Seatondale. Vi led into the straight where Composed joined in. A great struggle'now- ensued and the chances of several of the runners appeared good. Aberbrothock came on the rails and at the finish was a head in front of A r i, with Sublime, who put up a bad run down the back, third, and Mere Mere and Composed together next, just in front of Idealism. . . Marimba was at a short price in the Kuao Handicap for two-year-olds, and alter being in 'front throughout, she ran in n comfortable winner. AVarlight got badly bumped just after the start and the finished well and just missed second place. San Pluie (Deeley) had the best credentials in the High Weight Handicap field, and the public made her a strong favourite. She was always in a good position, this being due to the slow pace set by the lenders. Getting a clear passage the whole way she, ran in a oomiortabie wmnor from Montiform, who was ndden right out to bent Golden A\ ater. The betting public were at a lo~s to know what to make favourite in the Maiden Hack Scurry, and it was admitted on nil sides that the field was very weak. ,T. Gajncron started Stollaris and Kntu, and the pair woro first and second with Xgnkau, who began slowly, elo«e up. The favourite Kirkby was never prominent. Thrave, Yi, Mere Mere, and Sublime were saddled up a second time in the 6t. Patrick's Handicap; while Lady Moutoa was making her first appearance at the meeting. Mnori King rivalled the Foxton mare for the position of favourite on the machine. At the start Maori King moved first, but AVinning Post soon headed him, and Faunus dropped in behind. Fauiuis was first into the straight and, stalling off the opposition, he won by a length, with Maori King a heat, behind Mere Mere. Considering \\h good showing yesterday, the winner paid a re markably good price. Moutoa Girl and Mnnitau were evenh backed in the concluding event, whier resulted in a good race, and went tc Mnnitau, with Chief Marshall, whe finished very fast, just clear of Grandee During the afternoon Stnurlon ant Tripoli were offered at auction, but hot! failed to change hands. Two hundra and seventy guineas was bid for Tripoli but 80 guineas was the best offer foi Stourton. AUCKLAND R.C.
