IMPLEMENTS AT SHOWS.
ATTITUDE OF FARMERS' UNION. The following circular letter lias been addressed by the Canterbury Executive of the Farmers' I'nion to the chairman of local branches:—"Your executive has had under consideration the loss to farmers occasioned through the implement makers and importers declining t< l exhibit at the principal .Agricultural ami Pastoral Shows, and, after consultation with the local Agricultural, and I'astoral Association, has decided to recommend fanners who nro purchasing implements or machinery previous to the annual Show fixtures, to'mako a stipulation that delivery shall be Riven' on the " Show Grounds, thus affording farmers an opportiinity of comparing ami securing Iho most highly improved modern machinery, so that they may successfully compete in the -world's markets with New Zealand produce. Further, the executive, considers that, the travelling agent is a costly luxury. This method of sale lias largely increased the cost of scllinK, and the additional cost sooner or later falls , upon the farmers, who nre actually keeping a largo army of men to travel through the country at'their expense and ultimate loss, and, in addition, much time is wasted on the, farm. Therefore, your executive invites farmers tn absolutely discontinue the custom of givim; orders through travelling agents, but send thorn direct to I lie firms with whom they desire to deal.
