(From Our Special Correspondents.) 1 j FEILDING. The Foilding Hortioulturnl Society's iiul'.iimn show was opened yesterday in the Skating J\ink. Very largo entries have been received in all sections, mid tho show is the best all-round, boili in qualily and quantity, ypt held. The flowers, vegetables, and fruit aro a splendid lot. Four rinks of lTeildiuu bowlers play a return game, with the Palinerston Club next Saturday. A Palmerston rink (Draw's) comes to Feilding, aftoi- the Dixnn Cup. Tho statutory meeting o£ tho Feilding Fire Board was held at tlio Council Chambers yesterday. Present—Messrs. E. Goodbehero (chairman), Eirra, Mallard (both of Wellington), Harford, ami Saywell. An apology was received from Mr. Simpson, of 'Wellington. Tho Tokontngi School picnic was held at tho Territorial Camp, at Weston, by the permission of Lieutenant-Colonel Hughes. He gave tho children a good position to witness tlio arrival of Lord Islington, and afterwards they had a good time. It is not unlikely that Mr. E. Short, president of tho Foilding A. and'P. Association, will be asked to hold tlie office for a second term. CARTERTON. 'Major H. F. Skey has been appointed senior major of Company F, Second Battalion, 9th Regiment, and is now second in command under Major Charters. Captain H. Hart lias been appointed to the samo company. Mr. D. Robertson and Sergeant F. Morgan hayo been appointed to act as lieutenants while the company is in camp at Marakeke, Takapau. SHANNON. The Catholic concert to bo held on St. Patrick's night promises to be a great success. Vocalists aro coining from Wellington, Palmerston North, and other centres. Tho Horowhenua County Clerk has called a meeting of the public far Wednesday evening next (not Friday next, as stated in Monday's Dominion), to appoint a management committee for the public library and Mechanics' Institute. The old Post Office has been handed over to tho town, the County Council acting as trustees. The council have taken steps to get tho freehold of the section vested in themselves, as the local governing body. At a public meeting recently held, a management committee, consisting of Messrs. Lind, Hensman, Junning, Fargher, Selby, E. J. .Tiidd, and the Rev. Mr. Palmer was appointed, Councillors F. AV. Venn and G. W. Stephenson being ex officio members. More recently a library committee, consisting of Messrs. Lind, Mitchell, Gardiner, Clayton, and Selby, was elected at a public meeting. It is proposed now that both these committees should resign and one management committee be elected to control tho library and other business connected with the institution. As matters of considerable importance to the residents of the district will bo discussed, it is hoped that that thero will be a good attendance of tho public.
