DIFFERENCES IN RAILWAY POLICI*.

The Premier (Mr. M'Gowen) made a statement in the Assembly last night, showing that the strained relations, between the Government and the Chief Railway Commissioner had arisen, in connection with the supply of engines. Tho Commissioner asked that engines be im'ported from England to meet tho traffic pressure, while the Government favoured local manufacture. In 1910 the Government had instructed the Commissioner to arrange for the manufacture of tho engines locally; since then, nothing further had been heard from the Commissioner. The Government was faced with tho position that it must either depart from its policy and import engines, or accept the responsibility of holding up next season's traffic. ENGINES TO BE IMPORTED.
