THE HIMITANGI.
NEWS FROM THE CHATHAMS. Captain Hooper, of the Government training ship Amokura, which arrived nt Akafoa from Waitangi, Chatham Islands, on Saturday last, reports that the Jlimitangi was still in the same position as when tho Gertie left the Chathams for Wellington. Captuin Hooper left a couplo of strong rones i with those in charge of the Hjmitnngi to be used for the purpose of keeping the vessel in her present position. They will also be used when the attempts are made to refloat her. ' It was found that there was a fracture in ono of the Himitqiuji's rudder gudgeons. The cargo of fish had to be destroyed on account of the intake water pipes on tho vessel's bottom becoming cholced with Band, and this prevented.tho refrigerating engines from working. Norway has just appointed her first femnlo policeman, who has passed the necessary qualifying tests, been fitted with an attractive uniform, and given a salary of ,£7O a year.
