The monthly meeting of the Masterfon Fire Brigade, Ik-lil last evening, was presided over hy Superintendent Jenkins. It was decided h> hold a social on tilts evening of the sports day, at which competitors will bo entertained. Mr. G. de .Gi Baylis,' I'ields Instructor to tho Agricultural Department, met tho KxjH-riment Committee of the Mpsterlon A. and P. Association this afternoon, and arranged for the carrying out of autumn experiments on mi extensive scale. Poisoning operations are now in full swing in the Kast Coas* districts, and rabbits are reported to be taking the poison well. The Masterton County Council has decided to notify settlers that they must destroy willow's in the streams passing through their properties. There has been a kce.i demand for M'ai-rarapa-bred Tionmey Marsh rams tills ?eason, and breeders have experienced some difficulty in filling orders. At the Masierton Borough abattoirs the following slock wove, slaughtered during the month of February:—lo2 cattle, G calvrs, 442 sheep, 154 lambs, and 148 pigs. from present indications it would appear that there is not goin? to be a contest for the Mayoralty of Masterton this year.- The silting Mayor (Mr. J. M. Coradine) has expressed his intention of offerins himself for re-elec(ion. There are at present C 056 hooks on tho shelves of the Masterton Public Library. During the month of February 1184 books were lent from the library. The Masterton Borough Council decided last night to take legal advice in the matter of framing a by-law to regulate motorcar traffic within the borough.
