A letter from Edward I'ilzGcrahl, Ihe translator of Omar Khayyam, has recently been published which contains an inleresling allusion to Dickens, whom FilzGorald admired without admiring his imitators: "Ono is rejoiced to get hold of a Book nowadays that is naturally and easily written, without all that Epigrammatic and Graphic slang which has been the fashion since Dickens's days perhaps. I lovo Dickens, too: but if 1 had to write books, should return to dip myself in Sir Walter,'*
