Arahura, s.s., arrived at Greymouth from Wellington, via way ports, at 2 p.m. yesterday. She was to have left on the return trip at 2 a.m. to-day, and is espected to leave Westport at 2 p.m. for Nelson, Picton, and Wellington. The Monowai. which is due in port from Auckland, Gisborne. and Nnpirr about 11 n.m. to-day, continues her journey to Lyttelton and Dunedin at 5 p.m. It is reported from Newcastle that as a result of the inquiries by the board recently appointed to consider the positions of pilots at Sydney and Newcastle, the Government has decided to increase the pay of pilots all round. Tlw pijots at Newcastle have been granted an increase of £75 per annum, while the nilots at Sydney arc to receive an annual increase of £50. Senior pilots at Newcastle will now receive £''i 5 per year and junior pilots JJ375; senior pi.lots at Sydney will receive £450, and juniors £350.
