DEFENCE PICNIC.
The annual outing of the staff of the Defence Department was held in fine weather t>,t Day's Bay yesterday. Most of the officers from Headquarters were present, including Major-General Godlcy, (J.H., nnd Colonels A.. W. Itobin, E. S. Heard, and Lieutenant-Colonel H. 0. ICuox. A number of iadies were also present. A cricket match between teams representing the Headquarters Staff and the stores stiff resulted in a win for the fermer. The following were tho results of the races:— Headquarters' handicap— Bond, 1; Ryan, 2. Stares' handicap—Burnett, 1; Lody, 2. Ladies' race—Mrs.' Burnett. 1; Mrs. FlO.sc,- 2. Sack race—W. O'Sullivan. Officers' race—Colonel Knox, 1; Captain Mabin, 2; General Godloy, 3. 1 Flat race—Walsh. 1; Lyon. 2. Guessing competition—J. O'SnlHvan. 1. Wheelbarrow rocs—Klee, 1: Milroy, 2. Relay race—Lody and Hopkinson, dead heat, i. Consolation raoe—Sennssy, 1. Quoit competition—W. O'Sullivan, 1. Ladies' dnving-the-nail—Mrs. Post, 1.
