HOT MINERAL WATER.
BOEING OPERATIONS AT HANMER. (By Teibgranb:—Special Correspondent.) Christchurch, Starch 11. Boring operations at Hanmer Springs for a further supply of hot mineral water have been suspended pending the arrival of material from Sydney. The test made at tho spot near the cold swimming bath indicated by tho Rev. K. Mason was not a success. Mineral water was present, but the temperature was too low, 80 degrees, and tho quantity! was not sufficient to warrant further operations. A bora is now to be made at n third spot indicated by Mr. Mason to the north of tho first bore. ,pn the recommendation of tho' contractor "(Mr. li. W. 'Home), tho pipes first sunk were withdrawn, and perforated for a distance of 15 feet up from t>lo bottom before being redriven. This lino hail the effect of increasing the flow to 30 Bullous per minute, which, with the existing supply, brines the quantity of watvr available for batli purposes up to 42,000 gallons a day. At presant the bulk of this flow is going to waste, but no doubt when tho boriiig lias been given a thorough test steps will bo taken to conserve the overflow, and pipes will be lnid to carry it to tlio present cold swimming bath.
