EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
HUTT BRIDGE DISPUTE. A meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council was held on Saturday evening, there being present:. The Mayor (Mr. 11. W. Shorlt) and Councillors Button. Morris, Organ, Pilcher, Ross, and Wills. Leave of absence for the meeting was granted to Councillor Bannatyne, while Councillor Harcourt was granted six months' leave of absence during his absence from tho Dominion. After considering correspondence concerning tho, Hutt pipe and traffic bridge, tho council, which was unanimous in expressing dissatisfaction at the present position, requested the Mayor to arrange for a conference between tno Mayors and two councillors cacti from tho City, Petono, and Eastbourne Councils, with a view to securing completion of the undertaking, and compliance with the conditions of agreement entered into by the parties interested. The Public Works Committee was directed to take into consideration tho orection of a number of bathers' shelters when preparing estimates for next financiil year. Instructions were given for tho erection of a lamp at the corner of Makaro and Tuatoni Roads. Ten applications were received for the position of sanitation worker, under rovised conditions. After considerable discussion, it was eventually resolved to continue the services of the present employee, Mr. Ui'bahn, who was one of the applicants, on the basis of the new conditions. Mr. Pio Perno was appointed lamplighter for the borough. The Mayor reported upon the results of liis negotiations with the Harbour Ferry Company. This is referred to in another column. ,
