Mr. (.'. ,7. lieakes, Chief Government Veterinarian, who has been for the past week in Ihe Taranaki district, returned to Wellington bv the Xew Plymouth mail train on Saturday night. Mj-. W. 11. Hawkins, formerly JI.P. for Paliiatuu, is leaving that district to take tip farming pursuits in Taranaki. Mr 7'yne, of the Money Order Oflice of the Post (jllieo Savings Bank, has been transferred from Wellington to Whangarei. 7t is understood thnt Colonel A. Robin, C.8., C.M.0., who is proceeding Iloriie in May to join the Imperial General StaT? of the' English War Office, was nominated by the War Office as the officer to represent the Dominion at headquarters. The death is announced of Mr. John Dow, J.P., of Newtown, Outram, in his eightieth year. The deceased was born in Scotland, and landed in Port Chalmers in 1858. A cablegram has been received in Dunedin from the Registrar of the University of. Durham, stating that the. three students of Selwyn College who sat for the university examination in December last have been successful, namely: Mr. George Shibbs anil the licv. C. 0. Bushlung for the li.T. (Licentiate of Theology), and Mr. Alexander J. Petrie for tho first section of the L.T. Mr. Wm. M'Lean, of Wellington, intends to leave on a. trip to America during May next in connection with tho purchase of a boring plant for the Bonithom Oil Company, of New Plymouth. Mr. G. L. Bannatyne is resigning his position as a member of the Eastbourne Borough Council as from the end of this month.
