ADVANCE IN FRUIT .VALUES, At tlio Blair and Allen Streets Markets dining the week there lias been a decided advance in values foe nearly.'all lines of fruit with tho Exception of coiikinj apples, which aro in over supply at lis. to Is. per case; dessert sorts realise ss. to Bs. per case. Repacked Island oranges aro worth from Its. to 17s. por-U-inch UJse. Water melons ex this week's Sydney steamer sold at Is. to 2s. each, and Queensland pineapples set with good inquiry at lis. to 12s. per case, according to' condition. Passion fruit from Sydney sold at from 7s. to 10s. per half-case. There are no New Zealandgrown passions on the market. Messina lemons brought 15s. (id. per case of 150 to ISO. New Zealand-grown grapes aro plentiful at Gd. to'Bd. per lb. Quinces aro coming forward in small quantities, but the demand is only moderate at 3s.' Gd. per case. Fairly largo shipments of peaches came to hand during tho week from ITawko's Bay and Motueka. Choice fruit sold at 2s. Gd. to 4s. per half-case. There was a littlo improvement in the value ruling for pears,"although prices are still fairly -low. Choice W.U.C.'s sold at Gs. to 7s. Mario Louise, Gs. to Gs. Gd., and Bergamots 'Is. Gd. to ss. Gd. Other descriptions are selling at 2s. to 2s. Gd. per halfcase. The season for plums is drawing to a close, and the few brought forward realised 2s. to ss. per half-case, according to sample. The market has been heavily supplied with tomatoes from tho Lower Ilutt, best samples selling during the past two days from 3s. Gd. to ss. per case. Potato supplied continue ample for all requirements, values ranging from 3s. Gd. to Js. Gd. per cwt. for local grown. The vegetable market generally is in a satisfactory condition. French beans aro inclined to over supply, half sacks selling at 3s. to Is. Gd. Onions are making 9s. to 10s. per cwt'. Cucumbers are in heavy supply at r>s. to Gs. per banana ease. There is practically no demand for cabbage, the market being glutted, with prices at Is. to Is. Gd. per sack. Mostly inferior samples of green peas are coming in, the prices for these being 2s. to 3s. j»r lialf-sack. Good fresh s'jrts command 7s. lo Bs. per hnlf-'nck. Parsnips yield ss. to Gs.. and carrots (in well-filled sacks), 3=. Gd. to 'Is. Gd. There is a moderate demand for white turnips ut 2s. to 3s. per sack. Lettuce aro plentiful at 2-:. to 3s. per case, and marrows meet with a good sale at 3s. lo 4s. per sack. Supplies of pumpkins are now on the market, 4s. to ss. being the ruling price per «ack. Beetroot is worth 3s. to 4s. per sack. Choice white celery is bringing 2s. to 3s. per dozen. There is a p p od demand for swedes at 3s. per cwt.. this vegetable being somewhat scarce. Rhubarb is without demand at Is. to 2s. per dozen bundles. Other prices are Spinach. 2«. to 3s. per case; blackberries. 2d. to 2'.d. lb.: broad beans, 2s. Gd. to 3s. per halfsack: garlick, 3s. to 4s. per cwt: walnuts Gd. to 7d. lb. for bright samples. Eggs nr.-» in fair demand at Is. 4-d. per dozen. All lines of poultry are plentiful, values being low. Kens sell at 2s. 3d. to 2s. id. per pair; cockerels, 3s. to 3s. Gd.; and ducks, 3s. Gd. to 4-s. 6d.
