Sir,—Your paper states that the Labour Department have received notice from the Labour Minister to proceed against the Tramways Union regarding the recent strike. Other papers state that tho individuals will not come under the charge, which is a strange statement to make, especially since the Government .passed special.legislation to deal with all cases of unions employed in public transit and has oven gone bo for as to etato the minimum and maximum penalty, JGIO and .£25 respectively. Such a decision as this may please a certain section of the community, but it will not add confidence to those men likely to start any enterprise. employing labour. Then, again, the comfort of the general .public is- not taken into consideration and the discomfort that aged and weak individuals of this city was put to during tho strike is evidently a matter easily forgotten.
