FIRE IN SYDNEY ST.
BOARDINd HOUSE DESTROYED, 'At-an «arly hour thia morning the Fire Brigade received a.oall to 127 Sydney Street, an eighteen-roomed boardinghouso, where an outbreak of fire had occurred. The house, which was occupied by Misa (Elizabeth Newman as a boarding establishment, was owned by Messrs. Hamilton Gilmer and M'Guiro. Tho furniture was insured for X2oO in tho'New Zealand Insurance Office. The building was burnt to tho ground end;nono of the contents were saved. The fire was supposed to have originated in the dining-room. Tho names of those in tho heraeo at the time of. the outbreak areas follow:— Misses Newman (2), Mrs. Allen, Messrs. 0. W. Erall, J. Hill, H. G. Marshall, and J. Kerrigan. Thero were two others, whoso names are unknown. The boarders lost all their belongings. Mr. 0. W. Biall was tho first to notice the fire, and he quickly roused the rest of the ■occupants, most of them earing only •what they stood up in. Mr, Hill, who is believed to havo eomo insurance on his belongings, lost everything.. Mr. Kerrigan, who also lost everything, tad a small insurance on hig effects. Mr. Exall made an attempt to save eome of his goods, but failed, and while so doing met with eonio slight injuries. ," The alarm was given by the nightwatchman nt Parliament House at 8 mintutea:to 2. Ho first.thought it to bo tho Museum Buildings, as tho bonrdinghouso is situated very close to tha tplace.
