(Dy Telesraph.— Special Correspondent.) I Palmerston, March 8. Messrs. D. Buick, M.P., jiuU M. A. Eliott, president of tlie i'almerstou Chamher of Commerce, met. the Hon. J. A. Miliar, Minister for Railways, as.lie passed through Paltncrston yesterday afternoon, on his way to Auckland, their object being to arrange for the deputation iroin the Borough Council and Chamber of Commerce, which is to wait on Mr. Millar in respect to various' matters in connection with the railway arrangements, so far as Palmarston is concerned. The. Minister has arranged to meet the deputation as he pastes through Palmerston on his way back from Auckland to Wellington next 'Wednesday. In conversation with Messrs. Buick and Eliott, Mr. Millar stated that plans wore now being prepared for a new "island" platform (i.e., one on which the trains will pass on both sides), in front of the present platform. Connection with tho island platform will be made with an overhead bridge, and the new arrangement will very materially rehove the congestion which now occurs every day when the through trains arrive and depart. The Defence Department having leased the show grounds in Palmerston, all parades of the local Territorials will h?ncefovth take place there.
