Tho following is a precis of the annual report of the St. Jnmcs Football Club, to „ bo presented at the club's annual meeting on Monday next:— Tho senior team finished in tho third " position, after a succession of hard and ' interesting matches. During the whole of tho second round, up to the semi-final, 7 it held tho leading position, when defeat ■1 placed them beyond the reach of the championship. In view of this, and the j previous year's showing, when they finl ished in the second position, the commit- [) too urges that members combine to see cure tho highest honour for tho ensuing r season. The junior team, considering tho 1 material at its disposal nnd the drawings ! whichi were made on it "by the senior.*), I did very wo!!, and it is encouraging to be able to report that the prospects for the coming year are exceedingly bright. I The fourth-class team is deserving of .very i great credit for the tight it put up, and 1 in winning eight of its matches (inchidj ing that against tho team which won tho * championship) out of the eleven played, " has every reason to lie proud of its show--1 ing. Tho fifth-class" team, although un- ■ successful in tho majority of its matches, \ were enthusiastic to the finish, and it Is ' expected that with last year's experience ' at the back of them, they will be very near the top at the end of the current . season. The annual meeting, of the Athletio Football Club was held in Godber'e Rooms last night. Tho president (Mr. G. T. C. Campbell) was in tho chair. Thero were about sixty members present. The chairman, moving the adoption of tho report, congratulated the club on tho success achieved in winning the senior championship, and also tho fifthclass championship. A strong feature about the Athletic Club, he said, was tho attention it paid, and the attraction which it oiTored, to younger players. Ho hoped that this policy would still bo followed, for a club .which existed for its senior team was apt to meet with ill success sooner.or later. It should also bo remeniberdcivthat the object of tho club was to do something for the good of the young men of the town in encouraging them to play Rugby football. He. hoped ■ tho players would get to work as early as possible, and lie strenuous in their endeavour to repeat the success of last season. Tho report was adopted. The chairman, on behalf of the club, presented to Mr. W. J. Heonan an enlarged framed photograph of the senior team, for which he acted in tho capacity of trainer and adviser. Tho Palmerston North Old Boys' Club wrote offoring to play a team representing tho Selwyn Club at Easter time. The incoming committeo was instructed to make tho necessary arrangements to send a team to Palmerston. Some discussion took place in reference to a proposal by tho Athletic Club (to be discussed at tho annual meeting of Rugby Union delegates on March 13) that tho Rugby Union should share gate receipts, on one day during the season, with clubs which aro building gymnasia. Tho club instructed its delegates to propose, as an nmendment, that all clubs should participate equally in the division of: gate receipts on the proposed Gymnasium Saturday. It was pointed out that the Athletio Club is tlio only one which is at prosent building a gymnasium, but that eome are paying , rent for tho uso of a. gymnasium, while others, which possess gymnasia, have not yet paid for them in full. A number of speakers held that the only fair arrangement was that all clubs should benefit equally by n "Gymnasium Saturday," in the event'of one being arranged. It was agreed that the first practice of the club should bo held on Saturday, March 1«. The club has secured the services of Mr. W. O'Connell ns coach, and extends an invitation to all young players to enrol in its ranks. The secretary reported that he had written, a fortnight previously, to a number of city headmasters, offering to enrol any of their pupils a<! free members of tho club, but that no replies had us yet come to hand.
