MORE PEDIGREE STOCK.
IMPORTATION OF SOUTH DEVON CATTLE. During his recent visit to England, Mr. John Urigg, of Longbeuch, purchased a few head of pedigree stock, including two or three Shire colts, some South Devon cattle, Southdown sheep, and some Clydesdale blood. Mr. Grigg remarks that tho South Devons arc the first of the breed to come to New Zealand. Tho South Devon is reported to be a fine dual-pur-pose animal, and only a few days ago its claims were being urged in New Zealand by a visitor, Mr. Chas. Elliott, who was enthusiastic in his praise of the breed. Air. Grigg says they are big, robust catUe, and very good milkers. The tenant fanners in the South of England, who lean towards the breed, have to pay from £2 to £6 per acre rent, so, Mr. Grigg argues, Hi© South Devons cannot be bad till-round cattle. The future of the importations will be followed with keen interest.
