HUTT AND PETONE NEWS, (From Our Special Correspondent.)
Mr. J. Carson, who was appointed workshops manager at Petone in succession to Mr. Allen, has taken up duty. Mr. Brooks, manager ot the fitting' shop, has been acting in the interim. A. sight very seldom witnessed locally will be the visit of the "Wellington Cruising Yacht Club to Petone waters on Saturday, when the yachts' companies will be the guests of the Heretaunga Boating Club, whose members will entertain the visitors to afternoon tea in their club rooms. The Cruising Club possesses some of the largest yarchts in the harbour, namely, the Ngaira, White Heather, Bona, Ailsa, Windward, Kotiri, etc., and these should make a. very fine picture as they race from Clyde Quay "Wharf to Somes's Island, thence round the Heretaunga Boating Club's course, and finish across (he hushing lino at the end of the wharf. It is expected that the various yachts will hiivo a jiercentage of the fair sex on hoard, and the'local club intends to pay due court lo the Indies who grace the occasion. This will be the first gathering of the kind held on this foreshore, and certainly will be a sight worth witnessing. In all probability a couple of sailing races will be held by tho local club boats to enhnuce the pleasure of the iftcrnoon's sport. On Saturday, March 16, the club intends holding its annual harbour excursion at the samo popular prices, having chartered the s.s. Ouehess for the occasion.
