ASSOCIATION.

W.F.A.'S ANNUAL BEPOET. The following is a summary of tho Wellington Football Association's twentyfirst animal report: ■• The past season has been tho most successful one, and the committee therefore considers that there is warranted cause for congratulation. The season was commenced with an increased number of I teams taking part in the various competitions. It is worthy of record that in [ all grades an improved stylo of play was manifested, more especially in the junior, grades. The competitions in some of the lower grades were very keen,/and in most cuses it was never easy to pick the ultimate winners. The committee therefore considers.that there is no cause to i'ear for the future prosperity and welfare of the game in AYellington. The First' Division competition was a most interesting one, for a considerable time, but Swifts ultimately won rather easily. The points score by the leading teams' were:—Swifts 311, Hospital 2G, Thistle !>s,' and liamblers 23.' The W.F.A. Charity Cup filial was played on the Mental Hospital ground, at l'orirua, between Swifts and Hovers. Tho thanks of the association are due to the Hcspitnl authorities for the use of their ground on this and other occasions. The committee considers that the winning team in the Second Division Championship should consider the advisability of entering for the First Division competition, mere especially as.it is situated in n largely-populated district, and should therefore be able to work up an exceedingly strong membership, A feature of the Third Division competition was the splendid form shown by the first ' four teams, hi the concluding stages all tho teams were in the running for the cup. The Johnscuville team is to be heartily congratulated on winning the Henderson Memorial Cup, more especially as this was its first season in the Association ranks. Provided the members work together, the Monagement Committee anticipate a promising morel for this club in the future. During last season a schools' competition was held. Ten entries were received from various schools, and matches were played oii Saturday mornings. An interesting item is the fact that a generous supporter of the Thistle Club presented a cup, to be known as the Thistle Cup. and medals were also .presented by llessrs. K. Dolton and T. ■Shields. The committee is gratified with the success which attended their efforts in this new departure, and anticipate that more schools will avail themselves of the opportunity of playing the Association game during the coming season. The Scouts' Competition, .which was played at the end of the season, resulted in the I'etonc Scouts becoming the proud holders of the Banner. It,is regretted I hat the Wednesday competition was not such a success as was anticipated, but it is confidently expected that an increased number of teams will be playing when this season's matches commence. It is desired to thank 11 r. A. Heid for a set of medals for presentation to the winners of the First Division competition, also for a special gold medal for the goalkeeper having the lowest number of goals scored against his club. This was won by CnckInirn. of the Hospital Club. Hoys' football is now on a firmer footing than ever before, but it behoves the incoming committee lo further consider the welfare of this class if football and to in no way relax their efforts in this direction. No serious accidents occurred during the season. ]f. is recommended that arrangements should be made at tho commencement of this season to hold a sports meetin", at which the assistance of all clubs should 1>? asked. J.t is staled that at last the efforts put ferward in previous sous towards the purchase of a ground for football and other purposes has been crowned wilh success, and Hint a ground suitable for Hie purpose required lu.s liven purchased al South Kilbirnic. II is anticipated that within a short lime the ground will be completed ami r ly lo he nhivrd on. Regret i- expressed at the departure of Mr. H. N. Holmes, chairman of Hie coniinillee, from Wellington. II is pointed out that it will be necessary for mi increased amount in ground fees lo be paid during I lie incoming season, owing te the Cite Council having decided to charge X'i per'ground. In conclusion, it is hoped Hint the coming season may lie even more successful Ihtin Hie one just concluded.
