THE BANK OF N.Z.
NEW APPOINTMENT CONDEMNED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Christchurch, March 7. "Having scrambled hack into offico for a brief breathing space by the most undignified and humiliating device yet recorded in the history of politics, tho fugitive and fragmentary Ward Ministry evidently intend to take every possible advantage of tho brief span of power that is left to them," says "The Press" to-day. "There is no question in our mind that if is quite unjustifiable for the Prime Minister in the circumstances to make such an important appointment as that of director of the Bank of New Zealand. That such a'position should be used as.a means of rewarding a political henchman and promoter of banquets emphasises the gross impropriety of the proceeding. If the Bank of New .Zealand is to continue to possess the confidence of the public, the best men obtainable for the position must be appointed to the board, quite irrespective of party considerations."
