THE SHACKLETON RECORD.
This map shows the, portion of Antarctica chosen by Lieut. Shackleton for his dash for the Pole. The spot where tho Nimrod's party-wintered is near Cape Royds. It was from this spot that Shackleton started out for tho Pole, tho route taken and the final point reached being roughly indicated. In tho dash for the Pole by tho Discovery's party in 1802, when th* then best previous record was established, 9SSO statute miles ( were covered; whilo tho Nimrod's party covered 170S statute miles.
