Tho foroo of it blow the firo out of the furnaw. «nd Mr. Fordc was burned slightly on tho face and arm. The expSn also broke a skylight above him, ind his head was cut by falling glass. It i* summed that one- of the cases, which'had contained an explosive compound, had still it little of the preparation adhering to it. .The ease was cer-. tainlv not full. This is the only explanation that can bo given of he occurrence, for the management at the factoiy appear to be unable to assign any other cause. The story winch circulatod in Nnvtown in the afternoon, after the accident, was that n boiler in the factoryhad burst. Nothing of the sort occurred in fact. . ~, , v Information from tho hospital last night was that Mr. Fordc was still there, but was progressing very satisfactorily.
DEATH IK A BOARDIXGHOUSE.
An inqncst was conducted yesterday by -Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., concerning the death'of William Lawrence, found dead on Tuesday morning in a hoardingjiouse in Cuba Street. The body, when lound, wns fully clothed, r.nd apparently docoiused was in tho act of retiring to bed when hn died suddenly. It appeared from the evidence that Lawrence had returned to tho boimliiifrhonso- on Monday evening about Mvon o'clock, ttiul there, hud tome liquor with three, fellow-boarder?, their evident was to tho effect that deceased was In- no menus under the influence, ot liquor* when he loft them to go to bed shortly after ten o'clock. Ihey parted good friends, nnd there had been nothing Fn the nature nf a quarrel among them. On Tuesday morning one of his companions found him lying on the flooi dead. None of clothes had been removed, and the bod had not been used. Dr. Kington Fyffo gave evidence na to tho results of the post iiiovtein cxaiMiiintion made by him.
