ARRIVAL OF THE WAIMANA,

The new .steamer Wuiinana, the latest oildition to the Shaw-Savill lleet, is paying her first visit to Wellington, and berthed at the Kiiiff's Whai-r yesterday morning to discharge Liverpool cargo. • TheWaimana is a twin-screw vessel 494 feet in length, with a gross tonnage of about 10,000, cud is similar in appearance to the same company's liner, Pakeha. She has been built under Lloyd's special survey Tor' the highest class in their registry, besides' Complying with the Board of Trade requirement:- for a passenger certificate. The decks are supported on fore and aft girders, the ordinary pillaring being dispensed with, thus leaving the holds practically free of obstruction, and therefore capable of receiving consignments of cargo of large dimensions, such as locomotives, motor cars, boilers, and general machinery. Four of the six. holds into which the cargo Space is divided have .been insulated and otherwise prepared for the carriage of frozen mutton; and this perishable careo will be kept in condition during; transit by an efficient installation of plant. The hatchways to each hold are suitably furnished with winches, derricks, and all other appliances necessary for the speedy loading and discharging of cargo. Comfortable accommodation for a number of first-class passengers is provided in a steel amidships ilorkhouse, with a commodious ration at the forward end of the house and an attractive smoke-room adjoining. The state room's are spacious, and they are comfortably 'furnished. Captain and oflicers are bertbed in a. steel house on the upper bridge deck, while the engineers and petty officers or? in homes imilL round tin , engine and boiler casino:-;,' the crew beinc quartered in the topgallant forecastle and on thn upper (ici-k forward. There arc two independent fo's of trip'.e-expansiuii engines, having oil tiie latest, improvements, fitecin boiiis supplied from five single-ended steel boilers working imdpr forced draught. All important feature in the equipment is the installation of wireless telegranhy., Already the Shaw. Savill and Albion Com-1 pany have had the Arawa. Athenic, the Corinthic, the lonic, and the Tainui so eoninped, and all the other pas«cngnr boats of the company will presently carry the necessary wireless telegraphy apparatus. The Wnimmia left Queen's Dock, Liverpool, on December 23, with 11C0 immigrants and 10.CC0 tons of cargo on board, and experienced a succession of southerly galrs till after clearing the Itay at Biscay. A very high sea was running, but the Walmpiia proved herself an excellent sea boat. Calls were nridc at Tcneriffe. Cape Town, Frcmantlo (where 550 immigrants lnndod), Adelaide (when. <sti immigrants landed), Sydney, Auckland, and Cisborne, the liner arriving at anchor in Wellington Harbour on Monday evening. Captain W. Uurvill-Holmes, R.N.R., is in command, and his other officers are: Chief, Mr. W. Somers; second, Mr. L. M'Kirdv (late of the Matatua): third, Mr. W. Harding; fourth. Mr. R. Williams. Mr. G. Arthur i= chief engineer. Mr. J. Piprrc eccond, Mr. J. Doo third, Mr. R. M'Grcßor fourth. Mr. \V. /.damson fifth, and Mr. ,T. Toil sixth. Mr. W. Mmrc is chief refrigernting engineer, and Mr. J. Harrison recond, while M-j. T. Fjitlcdge is chief steward. On Thursday or Friday the Woironnn. leives Wellington for Lyttelton and Duncdin.

BANFFSniRE FROM LIVERPOOL. At 7.30 a.m. yesterday the F.-H.-S. steamer Ilanffsliin; left Auckland in continuation of her journey from Liverpool to Wellington. The vesrfil should arrive here about noon to-morrow.
KIHKDALE'S MOVEMENTS. Telegraphic, advice received from Auckland last e'veninic announces tho arrival of the A. and A. Line's chartered Kirkdale from Xew York. She is due at Wellington about March 12.
WAIWERA AT AUCKLAND. An arrival at Auckland at 3.30 p.m. yesterday was the Xew Zealand Shipping Company's chartered steamer Waiwera. The vcss?l, which is en route from St. John (New BruiiMvick), is duo at Wellington about March 9.
TAIHTrS EXPECTED ARRIVAL. The Tahiti, which is en route from Sydney to Wellington, reported by wireless last evening, that it was exnected to moke port at 6 a.m. to-morrow. The vessel sails for fan Francisco, via way, ports, at 5 p.m. on Friday.
