OTAKI NOTES.

The monthly meeting of tho Otaki Road Board- was held on Monday afternoon. Present:—Wardens F. C. Jones (chairman), J. 1). Howell, David Judd, and Arthur Skerman. Correspondence was' read and dealt with as follows:—From Messrs. Bird Bros., stating that, as a result of tho recent rains,' slips had Men at North Manakau, and had.been left till cleared away by themselves. They wished the board, in future, to do the work.— The roadman reported that he wa9 at present assisting ■on the road, end it was decided to take no ' further action. Prom Now Zealand Insurance Company stating that, under anew Act, the board's liability on account of accidents, to its workmen would be increased.—Received. The Railway Department,'in reply to the board's letter, agreed to have their, septic tanks at the station attended to. The Public Health Department wrote, stating an inspector would bo sent to report ou tho state of the Maneapouri creek.—Aβ tho letter was dated February 3, members were desirous of knowing where the report was. Several wardens complained of rubbish bsing deposited on .the Biverbank Road, and after discussion it was decided to take action against offenders. It was decided that the ranger bo instructed to impound all Vr-andering stock, , also that small bridges on tho Waerenea Bond and at Manakau South bo repaired. At tho Police Court yesterday, W. Quill, charged with drunkenness, was fined £o, in default throe months' imprisonment,- this being his fourth conviction in six months. Charles Larscn, also oharged with insobriety, -was fined 20s. . .

At present eickness is somewhat prevalent in tho district, and among children especially so.
