ST. PATRICK'S DAY CELEBRATION.
St. Patrick's Day is to be celebrated on a somewhat lavish scalo' this year; The locale of the gathering will be. at Newtown Park. A feature of the day will be the Irish jig competition, for which Mr. Frank M'l'arland has offered a handsome solid gold medal to (he winner. The .tup-of-war will also be an attractive item. .In the morning tho children from boys' and girls' schools will be attended to by ft special programme, and i;ood prizes awarded to the winners. In tho afternoon ("People's Day") a lengthy and varied programme will be served up. A silver cup, donated by Messrs Sullivan and l'itzgibbon, will bo awarded to the champion bov iminer, in a half-mile contest, amoupj tho students of Mm Marist Brothers schools. Tho military aro to be catered for bv a cadels-in-nniforin race, tent pitching, 'physical drill, Mid bugle-calls competition.
