HASTINGS ITEMS.
A narrow escapo from a serious accident occurred at Hastings .yesterday. Tho harness of a horse, driven in a trap by Mr. Arthur Wade, ennio loose, and the animal, becoming frightened, bolted along ono of tte main streets. Jlr. Wade, clung to tho reins, hut tho horso turned a corner, and dashed alom; Southampton Street towards the railway crossing. The occupant, seeing (in approaching train anil being; unable to flop (.he horse, then dropped Ihe and, at the last moment, flung himself out of tho vehicle. The hoivfo went on, and, dashing into (ho train, was so severely injured that he had to be destroyed. Tho weather is promising for the autumn show of tho Hawke's Bay A. and P. Society. The entries easily constitute a lTcord, and the quality of tlio products is remarkably good.
