The rainy and boisterous weather which set in on Saturday night grew considerably in severity during Sunday, and yesterday had iucrca>ed to a moderate northeasterly gale. Heavy rain fell during last night, and this morning only a slight improvement was noticeable. Bad weather scorns to be prevalent both up and down the coast, and shipping lias been delayed. J?.?|>crts from Coromamlel shite (hat tip water in the main creek there rose six feet in two hours. Families had to be rescued from their houses in the lower township, and conveyed to higher ground. iUuiy houses have from two to tlirce feet of water inside, ami furniture is floatin? round in them. The Koyal Mail Hotel and shops in this locality sustained severe damage to stock and furniture. Horses and cattle have to he res-cued from paddocks, which are. covered with water, liravo fears are expressed as to tho safety of the main bridge connecting the towii with the shipping and the mines, should heavy rains continue. Landslips are numerous throughout tho district.
