AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

NEW ZEALAND, ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last night. TheTo were present:— Messrs. A. Marrvatt (chairman), C. E. Bridge, W. .T. Larkin, J. Cusack, B. A: Guise, and E. L Chaftey. Professional Footballer Reinstated. An application for reinstatement was mado by A. P. House, a Petono athlete. He had infringed tho amateur rules by going to Australia with the professional football team nearly thcee years ago, when he was only. 19 years of age. Since then he had Tun as an amateur, not knowing that ho was not entitled to do so. One of the terms of his reinstatement was that ho was to returu, or forego his right to, all trophies won as au amateur. Sports and the Army. Major .7. G. Hughes wrote that he was sending a circular to the four military districts suggesting that when drawing up .programmes.for camp sports, tho conditions and rules of the Amateur Association bo followed as much as possible, also informing them that amateurs and professionals may compete together, provided the prizes arc trophies. Tho chairman reported that this was the outcome of a deputation from tho council, which had waited upon General Godley and other officers of the Headquarters Staff. Tho General had given them a most encouraging reply, and he had promised on behalf of the council to give assistance by lending material. Ho suggested that tho association should ask the centres to put on military events ou their programme, and that arrangements be made by which military officers could act as members of the centres controlling these ovents. / - Tho letter was received, but the last proposal was held ovior.

Records Passed. The Australasian Union wrote that they had passed L. H. Kelly's record of 6ft. 1 3-lGin. in the high jump ovents at tho recent Australasian Championships. Tho union stated also that they had noted Hill's run of Omin. 30 l-ssec. for two miles on December 27 at tho same meeting'. Standard certificates had boon issued .13 follow :-220yds., R. Opie; 880 yds,, G. Harding; one mile, G. N. Hill; one-mile walk, H. E. Kerr, W. Murray; three-mile walk, H. E. Kerr, W. Murray; D. Cashman, J. J. Harley, and W. Ellis. The New Zealand Council decided further to apply for a record certificate for H. E. Kerr's three miles' time of 21min. 3G 3-ssec, as being the best under the now conditions. Cross-Country Championship. The cross-country championship for this season was • allocated to Wellington.
