The health of the pooplo of Auckland tlio present summer shows a general iiiipro'vvmcnt as compared with last vcar (writes our correspondent). So far there liavo been less cases of typhoid, scarlet i'evor, and diphtheria, than were reixn-led hist summer. _ This satisfactorv state of affairs is chiefly attributable to "tlio fact that the whole district is cleaner and in a more sanitary condition owing, doubtless, to the strenuous cleansing operations carried out subsequent to the plague scaro in 11)10. This disease is conspicuous lsy its absence amongst the large quantities of rats being examined daily. Messrs. J. H. Bethuno and Co. announce in our auction columns that to-day, at 2 p.m., at tho Telegraph Stores, Pipitea.
