IMPERIAL COMMISSION.

AUSTRALIAN MEMBER APPOINTED. Bj Teleeranh—Press Association -Onurrlfflit Melbourne, March 2. Tho Federal Government has appointed Mr. Donald Campbell, of South Australia, and an ex-Labour member of the Australian House of as the Commonwealth's representative on the Imperial Commission to inquire regarding natural resources and the improvement of trade within the Empire, in accordance with tho resolution adopted at the Imperial Conference.

At the Imperial Conference last year an interesting and important resolution followed a proposal by tho Government of Australia for supporting "efforts in favour of British manufactured goods and British shipping." Sir Wilfrid Lauriov said that it was a case in which information must precede effort, and he proposed that his Majesty should be asked to -appoint a. Koyal Commission representing the United Kingdom and the Dominions "with a view of investigating and reporting upon the natural resources of eacli part of tho Empire represented, the development attained and attainable, and the facilities for production, manufacture, and distribution, tho trade of each part with the others and with the outside world, the food and raw material requirements of each, and the sources thereof available; to what extent, if any, the trade between each of the different' parts has been affected by existin" legislation in each, cither beneficially or otherwise." Mr. Harcourt proposed to add "and by what methods, consistent, with the existing fiscal policy of each part, the trade of each part with tho others may bo improved and extended." With this" addition tho resolution was agreed to, Mr. Asmiith promising that the Home Government would spare no pains to secure as their representatives upon the Commission the ablest men possible.
