TRENTHAM--1912.
THIRD DAY, AN ADDRESS TO MEN ON RANGE--325 COMPETITORS. THE PRIZE MONEY IS REDUCEDFUTURE PROSPECTS. There was a very different air about the range at Trentham yesterday—an air of bustle and business. After two days of depression, with men grouped in tents hero and there brooding over real or fancied wrongs, it was quite a relief to see somo 320 odd competitors paraded at the squadding posts at 8 o'clock in the morning ready to begin.the serious business of the meeting. The teams matches had gone by the board, save, of course, the C.A.C. Match which was fired on Thursday, and a beginning was mado with the "B series" part of tho programme—individual service matches. Theso being obligatory upon all those desirous of taking part in the bull's-eyo championship series next week, every competitor paraded for the 6nap-shooting and loop-hole cover matches which opened tho Bhooting, and for the rest of tho day.had plenty to think about. Also their grievances and forebodings ■were largely, if not wholly, dispelled by the address which Colonel Collins delivered to tho men when they paraded in the morning. Shortly expressed, tho main points of the colonel's remarks amounted to this: J. The total prize-money for the B and C series (individual service matches and bull's-eye championship), has been reduced from JJIGIB to 8. Tho first prize in tho King's Prizo Match is. reduced'from .£SO to .£35; 2nd, ifrom £25 to .£2O; 3rd; from to .£ls. 8. Representatives of rifle clubs are to . meet General Godley in conference after the shooting is over, and discuss with him (a) the new proposals for tho enrolment in rifle clubs of youths from 18 to 21 who cannot be enrolled in tho Territorial Force; and (b) tho question of revising the constitution of tho Dominion Rifle Association with respect to tho representation of competitors on the Executive Committee.
