THE OYSTER SEASON.

OPENED YESTERDAY. (By Telerraph.—BpecUl Correspondent.) ■ Christohurch, March 1. The Bluff correspondent of tho "Press" telegraphs that tho oyster season was successfully opened to-day in calm weather. Tho main' fleet left yesterday afternoon, and the three larger steamers shortly after midnight. The bens are in first-class order, and good loads wero brought into tho Bluff early this afternoon. There is always a great deal of rivalry between tho boats as to which claims the honour of reaching port with tho first bad. The Hita, a fast little vessel with a smart crow, proved tho winner to-day. Sho brought in the record catch of -100 dozen. The oysters- are in splendid condition, being larger than last year. This is accounted for by tho fact that tho season opened a mouth Inter than last year.
