■* . SYDNEY THUNDERSTORM, By T»le«r»Bk— Vian AaMcUtlon—Oonyrirhl Sydney, March 1. Yesterday's rain storm was extremely violent, 416 points falling in a few hours. A portion ci the time the rain fell at the rate of fivo inches an hour. All tho thoroughfares converging wore raging torrents. The damage is extensive, A passenger tram at Darlinghurst was struck by lightning and knocked off the line. The car was severely damaged by the shock. There was a cloudburst at Cnpertee, near Lithgow. Thousands of tons »f rocks were washed from the mountainside and blocked tho railways and roads. Trucks and coalskips were buried or swept away. The floors of houses were covered with silt to a depth of several feet. Two bridges were carried away. A HEAVY RAINFALL. (Rec, March 2, 0.5 a.m.) Sydney, March 1. Over 8J incb.es of rain fell in Sydney during the week.
