ANNUAL PICNIC.

On Thursday the annual picnic of the Marine and Government Inspection of Machinery Departments was held nt Day's Bay. The guests, who numbered 140, were conveyed to and from the Bay by the Union Company's harbour «tcanier Terawhiti. A cricket match between teams from tho. combined head offices end the Government steamers resulted in a win for the latter by 4 runs. The scoies were as follow:—Tho steamers, 101 (Waddell 37, Williams 15, Johuston 14, and Ovondon 12) and tho Offices, 97 (Millier 29, Alves 14, and Munr o 13). Waddell (four wicket?) and Ovenden {three wickets) bowled well for the winners, ns did Weir (three wickets), Thomson (two wickets), ■Burke (two wickots), nnd Millier (two wickets), for the losers. ■■ - > . Luncheon and afternoon tea wero provided in the pavilion, and the cutin'g was thoroughly enjoyed by all those present.
