The Manufacturers' Conference has adopted resolutions in favour of greater efforts on the part of the State Governments to induce a continuous flow of immigrants to overcome the scarcity of skilled labour. Another resolution favoured tho introduction of decimal coinage and decimal weights and measures.

Ottawa, February 28. Mr. W. Hofius, a millionairo manufacturer and capitalist, of Seattle, is dead, aged sixty years. He started life as a day labourer in a foundry, and saved enough money to buy a blast furnace. He then rolling mills, and grew to lie the wealthiest man on the Pacific Coast of America.
