MASTERTON NOTES.
(By .Telegraph.-Special Correspondent.) Masterton, February 2G. Information was received in*Masterton yesterday of the sudden death at Winton (Southland) of Percy V. Kilmister, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kilmister,, formerly 'of this town. Deceased, who was twenty-two years of age, was highly respected bv those who knew him. Iwo brothers and two sisters are at present resident in Masterton. Mr. E. R. B. Daniel, who has for the past eight years been manager of the furnishing department of the W.F.C.A., is severing his connection with that firm to start business on his own account in Ilawko's Bay. On Saturday night Mr. Daniel was presented by the employees of the furniture factory with a silver fruit stand and silver-mounted spirit flask. . •The Rev. Herbert Watson, vicar of St. Matthew's, leaves this week on a visit to tho Old Country. During his absence he will be relieved by the Rev, Mr. Williams, of Wellington. A motor-car accident occurred on the road between Masterton and Carterton on Saturday night. Two cars were proceeding in opposite directions and were passing a trap at the same moment, The trap swerved to the wrong side ■of the road, and tho cara came into collision. One of them was considerably smashed about, and the lady occupants, who were thrown out, were fortunate in escaping with only a shaking. The fat sheep exhibited at the Masterton show were slaughtered at the Waingawa works on Saturday, in tho presenco of members of the committee. They will be sent Home to be judgod. The bullock used in the guessing competition at tho Masterton show turned tho scale at 11181b., and tho pen of three sheep at 1771b. Tho names of the prizewinners 'will bo announced to-day. The Government subsidy-to tho Waira,rapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board for the quarter ending March 21 last amounts to ,£1968 Is. 3d. Tho Wellington branch of the Shearers' Federation has now a membership of 1376, and the funds in hand amount to .£SOO. At tho annual meeting of subscribers of the Masterton Technical School tonight the following managers were elected for tho ensuing year:—Messrs. W. H. Jackson, 11. J. O'Loary, J. M. Coradine, C. E. Daniel, and E. Feist. A lad named — Cameron, son of Mr. Cameron, of (lie Bank of. New Sontli Wales, was engaged in ft wrestling bout at the Masterton School to-day when ho fell and fractured his leg.
