THE BLACK PAMPHLET.
RAPID EXCHANGES. Affi. MASSEY AND THE PREMIER. Mr. Massey interjected that "Black pamphlet" charges made against his party had never lieen withdrawn. Sir Joseph Ward stated that if ho raised■ tho question -of • the pamphlet again ho would do it outside the House. He was in a position to compel.a man to commit perjury or admit his complicity. Mr. Massey said that ho also had become possessed of information, and that tho man who supplied it had said that ho would send the same thing along to the Prime Minister. Sir Joseph Ward said that he had had information from two sources, and he could name the man who did it. Mr. Massey: So can I. Sir Joseph Ward said that he lad-never said that tho man responsible for the pamphlet was a member of the Opposition in tho House, but he said now that a strong supporter of tho Opposition had prepared and supplied information for the pamplilot. Mr. Massey: He was not an Oppositionist at all. Sir Joseph Ward: Then you have not got the information that I have got. He added that ninety-nine people, out of a hundred looked upon the pamphlet as boing such a blackguardly attack that it was unnecessary to refer to it again. Mr.- Massey repeated that the Prime Minister was wrong in attributing the pamphlet to an Oppositionist. The Prime Minister: I am not wrong. Mr. Fisher: Why don't you name him? The Prime Minister rejoined that he knew what he ought to do and would do it. He .was not romancing. He had the whole thing in black and white, and could put one or two men in gaol- in connection with it already. Ho had never intended to refer to the matter again,. because even his opponents looked upon it as sucli a cowardly, contemptible thing that no action on his part.was necessary. -'
