- -NO PROFIT FOR -MERCHANTS. fly Telegraph—Press AE6ociation-Copyrlght Sydney, February 23. ■At tho Sugar Commission, a witness gave evidence that the Colonial and Malic|uin Companies always raised and lowored prices simultaneously. This suggested nn understanding. A number of wholesale merchants declared that they dealt largely in, the Colonial Company's sugar, and that the profit to them was practically nil. The sugar duty was generally condemned. In contradiction of a witness, the chairman declared that evidence given in North Queensland was to the effect that the country was suitable for nothing but sugar, rice, and cotton. Dairying, etc., tad been tried without success.
