(Before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) THE ARCADIA. BATHER CONFUSED CASE. Two separate charges—one against George Pinnock and one against Beatrice Amy Pinnock—of failing to keep proper wages and time records with reference to their employees were brought by Mr. D. Carmody (Inspeotor of Awards). Mr. Samuel appeared for tho defendants, and contended that the oaso against Mrs. Pinnock must fail, as she was not the person responsible for the conduct of the Arcadia Hotel. She had made over the business to her husband. Furthermore, the information could not succeed, as she lad been charged as "being a shopkeeper ■within ■ the meaning of the Shops and Offices Act." His Worship: "What you say i« that what has been done might be an offence under some other statute." Mr. Samuel: "It might be; but I am not here to point that out," After hearing the evidence of Mr. Carmody and of witnesses for the defendnnl his Worship dismissed tho dharge against Mr. Pinnock on the ground of insufficient evidence. Tho caso against Mrs. Pinnock was dismissed, it being proved that she was not the responsible party.

OVERCOAT, ETC., STOLEN. Henry Pinninuer admitted stealing an overcoat from Benjamin Smith and 10s. fid. in silver from Ircdonck W. >(. DaChief Detective Broborg stated that the thefts were committed on the steamer Mararoi'. Vn till the last moment Pinnicer had denied the thefts. The prosecution now desired a remand to make some inquiries. A remand till Monday was granted.

DOG REGISTRATION. Henry Lloyd appeared to answer a charge of falline to register » dog. OTHER AFFAIRS. For insobriety Thomas' Benwick was fined XI; and Phillip Sharkey XI. For breaking a' prohibition order, John Walsh was fined X 2.

JUVENILE CASES. A bov of ton years was ordered to receive sfx strokes of the Mrctf for stealing fm bicycle, and his father was rc'TboyVStirteeT™ sentenced to a hirchinff of six strokes, and was committed toVe Wereroa Farm, for. tho theft of a bicycle, valued at £W.
