CHAMBERLAIN & STANNARD'S

BISHOPDALE BRICK FACTORY. In addition to its magnificent fruit farms, in.the Stoke district are throe important separate industries, namely—The Nelson Freezing Works, the Stake Cunning Factory, and Messrs. Chamberlain and Rtnnnard's Bishopdale Brick-making Factory. The works may be seen on the left-hand side of the road when going out, from Nelson, and only a few miles from' the town. The Bi-diopd.ile brickyard dates back almost, if not quite, to' the inception of the province, seventy years ago, but the present owners have not' long taken the place over. One of (ho latest Holfman kilns, with a working capacity of •10,000 bricks, lins been installed, and the finality of the bricks has been proved to be of a high order. Trade has grown under _ the new management, and with from six to eight men constantly employed, tho new firm is turning out from GO.OOO to 70,000 bricks per month. Besides supplying the town of Nelson, Messrs. Chamberlain and Stannard tnve built up a wide and influential business connection, which extends as far as jlurchisnn, and through tho hays as far as Collingwood. Being builders and contractors, Messrs. Chamberlain and Stnnnard.are enabled lu point out that at the present timo in Nelson a brick house costs very littlo more than a wooden one.
