Unsung Hero and Bad English,
"There could be no more remarkable cricketing career than that of John George- Hewitt" (says a. .Melbourne writer). "Some years ago he "was struck with a ball, which subsequently led to tho amputation of his left leg, but despite this he is to-day a most successful nllround player. Every day of (ho week ho is to bo seen at Albert Park, .bowling, batting, and fielding in a manner that puts to shame the efforts of many players who possess no physical defect. Hewitt is 18 years of age, and ft member .of (he Albert Park Juniors, Though only ablo to take a short and slow run to the wicket, ho bowls medium pace and breaks from either side. His success with (he ball is 'phenomenal.' [The writer.in tho course of his-had English merely means "wonderful."—"The Breaker."] Lost: season he look SI wickets at a cost of but two runs each, and so far this season has raptured 18 wickets for 1-10 runs. As a batsman ho has not been quite ,«n prominent, but (hat he possesses a good deal of merit in (his direct ion is evidenced by a score of 10 made a week or two ago."
