Wirele-s messages received from the Shaw, Sa.vill R.M.S. lonic (inward bound from London to Wellington) last night stated that she was not expected to arrive in port before 10 a.m. to-morrow. WHAT SORT OF ANCHOR? The respective holding powers of the oiJ-fashioncd stock anchor and those of tile fitockless anchor arc often discussed. Last year the baruuentine Carla, when outside the Wanganui bar, in a gale of wind, held on with two patent piocklcss anchors until the chain parted. The latent instance is that of the steamer Creyden, which-hold.in Nukualofa harbour with tw# stockless anchors down, when all other craft in the harbour were driven ashore. RAKAIA'S MOVEMENTS. Tho New Zealand Shipping Company's cargo carrier Hakaia is cxpceteil to arrive in port from Waitara to-day. THE QUEEN ELIZABETH. Farewell Spit reports that a large threemasted full-rigged ship passed cast at 5 a.m. yesterday. No number was given, hut it. is supposed that the vessel was the British ship Queen Elizabeth, 127 days out from New York to Wellington. Tho wind being in her favour, the vessel is expected to show up this morning. She has 17,000 cakes of oil on board, consigned to the Vacuum , Oil Company. Yesterday morning the Government training ship Amoluira came alongside the Wool Wharf, and subsequently proceeded to her anchorage in the otrcam. On February 29 the vessel wilt leave Wellington on a cruise to the outlying Southern Islands of New Zealand. To-day the Shaw, SnrLll steamer Mamari is duo in port from Lyttclton. She leaves for Auckland on Monday, and sails finally from the northern port for London, on March 3. Owing to the congested state of the wharves at Sydney, the ::ew Tyser liner Indrapurn was delayed in discharging her London cargo at that port. She left for Auckland oh Wednesday, and is not expected at Wellington until about March 7. Expected at Wellington from Gisborno early this morning, the Shaw-Savill steamer Ma.tatua will berth at tho Glasgow Wharf to take in what cargo is offering for Home. From Wellington the vessel proceeds to Lyttelton, leaving the latter port finally for London. On arrival from Melbourne via southern ports this morning, the Manuka will berth at the Queen's Wharf No. 1 north. She sails for Sydney direct at 5 p.m. Captain Wildir.an. of tho steamer Waimea, which arrived from Terakohe last night, reports sighting a full-rigged ship ten miles X.N.E. of Jackson Head at about 7 p.m. -yesterday. The sailer was under shortened canvas, and elo-so hauled on the wind, no doubt waiting for daylight before making the Heads. Tho weather changed for the better at Wcslport yesterday, and the Mapourika arrived there from Wellington, via Nelson, at 9 a.m. At 11 a.m. she continued her journey to Greymonth, arriving at the latter port' durinir tho afternoon. Tho Kaitangata left West-port for Wellington at 11.50 a.m. yesterday, aaid is due here this morning.
