FLAXMILL WORKERS.
THEIE DISPUTE WITH THE iiiIPLOrEHS. In connection with the published statements of Mr. R. 11. Dalhousio, 'president of the Flaxmill Workers' Union, with regard to the workers' agitation for amended conditions of labour, the other side of the case is stated by Mr. K. H. Spencer, secretary of the Flaxmiliers' Association, as follows:— ' Below is a copy ■of a resolution passed by the Flaxmiliers' Association, and officially conveyed to the union:— _J!o cutters am! trammers—That the Flaxmiliers' Association request all millers to giie immediate effect to the following recommendations :~ That, all clauses of the award regulating the conditions of work of cutters and trammels bo adhered to'. That millers agree that flax be weighed, and weights and weighing to available (o cutters cr their i'sHow employees. In cases vhcra a river is' crossed tus mill shall to considered the tram head. That when is. carted millers shall provide the necessary labour for roads in the ereut of {lax drays i::inj,' stuck, causing extra carrying of reloading, then the cutter shall bo pnid fir time so lost. That .V) employee shall b; compelled to board at tbo cook-house; .thnt in ca;?s where marrM men hoard at the cockhouse an allowance shall be made for every .day th'y are absent, provided 24 hours' notice is given of their intention to he absait. That all managers and foremen receive instructions to, give immediate effect to the foregoing. Therein it will be seen thnt a number of the claims, in so far as they referred to giving the 'men any facility to have proper weights of cut flax accurately ascertained and credited to them, were at once agreed to; and, moreover, the great majority of millers have for. years worked upon that system. Mr. Dalhousie's reference to "over-run" imports a term which is finite unknown to the Flaxmiliers' Association, and can only .lie desc.rifcil as n figment of his imagination. However, Hie above recommendation-, so entirely refute Mr. Dalhousie's statements as to discount (he value of his references in'their, entirety, to ft negligible quantity.
