During tho early part of tho day tho State Premier (Mr. M'Gowen) and Mr. Warner, captain of the M.C'.C. team, tried to secure a settlement of the cricket trouble. Hill, having only received an invitation to join tho team on Saturday, has ten days from then to consider the position. The other five players havo accepted, but have reserved the right to withdraw if anything should arise prior to the departure of tho team rendering such withdrawal necessary. Tho Board of Control insisted on a definite and' unqualified acceptance. Eansford's placo will bo filled to-mor-row. Carkeek now becomes first wicketkeeper in place of Carter. "Webster, of South Australia, will probably bo chosen ns second wicket-keeper. It is expected that Hill will decide to stand by the other malcontents.
