PETONE COURT.

The, monthly pitting of.-the Magistrate's Court, at I'etone, was held Wednesday morning. Dr. M'Arthur, S.M.. presided, and there were also on the Bench Messrs. Caverhill and Kier, Justices of the Peace. The police proceeded against H. Frith for breach of a prohibition order. Defendant, who was represented by Mr. Craeroft 'Wilson, was convicted and ordered to pay costs of tho action, 7s. Two charges were against George' -Arthur' Tegg 'that''.he obtained JjVfticr during' the currency of a prohibition order. In each case a conviction was ordered, «nil defendant was fined 405.. with costs amounting to 7s. Default was fixed at fourteen days' imprisonment, Two similar charges were brought against Cecil Edward Young Tavlor, and like penalties were inflicted. The borough inspector proceeded against. John M. Neno on a charge of suffering a nuisance to arise from his stable at 130 Nelson Street. Jlr. Cracroft Wilson appeared for defendant, and asked for lenient treatment. His client would promise not to use the stable in future, .ind steps would be taken to have it pulled down. . In view of this undertaking, u conviction only was entered, with an order that costs amounting to. !)s. should be paid. "This is a case where a resident has removed and left n great deal of refuse for the next tenant, and as this practice is becoming common in Petone, I must press for a penalty," said the borough inspector, in reference. to a cose in which William Jciikimt \w charged with allowing refuse to accumulate at the rear of premises at the corner of Jackson and Cuba Streets. Defendant pleaded not guilty, but after evidence had been heard a conviction was- entered with a fine of 205., and costs 7s. Judgment was entered for plaintiff by default in the following undefended civil cases:—W. H. Jenkins v. A. E. Norling, 17s. 3d., costs os.; same v. Ernest K. Garrett, I7s. Gd„ costs 55.; George Cochrane v. 0. Flinn, 13s.' 7,d.,' costs 55.; same v. W. M'lutcsh, .£1 145.; costs 5f.; same v. Margaret O'Halloran, ss. 6d., costs 6s.
