LORD ISLINGTON'S INITIATION.
"With appropriate pomp nud ceremonial his Excellency tho Governor (Jxml .Winston) was initiated to the Kilbirnie Lodge of the Independent Order of Oddin-llows, M.U., at tho Concert Itoom, Town Hall, last evening, in the presence of a largo and verv eiilhusiaslio gathering of members of-the Order. Then followed the official reception of his Excellency by the officers, supporters, and conductors, and the initiation of the distinguished "brother" In- tho Lecture Master, D.G.M. Bro. J. Clark, after which came "Lodge Honours," and the ceremonial of closing the lodge. After the interval, the proceedings wore made public. Addresses were delivered by Bros. J. Clark, J, Kershaw, and John S"mitk. His Excellency then responded. No honour bestowed upon him, he said, had afforded him greater gratification than his initiation to the young and vigorous Kilbirnie Lodge of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, and he would take pleasure in watching its future growth and development in strength and numbers. ITis Excellency referred to the economic value of such organisations, especially in a young country like Xcw Zealand. Such institutions, ho said, integral parte as thoy were of an Imperially developed organisation, ranked as important links in tho unity ot the British Empire. (Applause.)
