There was a l.irge al tendance on tho lwwling green last Wednesday afternoon when four rinks from the Levin Club played a similar number of rinks of local players, the visitors winning on the day's play. Tho following were the scores, Ix'vin's skips being mentioned first in each case:—l'orteous 21) v. Gunning 14;, Smart 20 v. Roach lit; Bromley It v. Lind 18; Palmer Hi v. Stephenson 17. Next Wednesday four rinks will visit Foxton. A Shannon rink will play the lioliicrs of the Thorns Ferns. Miss Law provided afternoon tea for the players and their friends.
Jliss Du nek ley and Xlrs. Gibson have donated trophies to be competed for by .tho local tennis players. At a meeting of the Ladies' Guild and members of the Anglican Church it was decided to hold a gymkhana during March and the following committee, was elected: Mesdames Gunning, Knowles, liatchelor, Hiss Wieklifl'e, Jlcssrs. Vicker.s Knowles, Gunning, Tilling, and the Kcwllr. l'atiner.
Mr. E. J. lulsby, son of Mr. J. ICilsby has been appointed to the -Government Insurance Department at Auckland. At tlio fortnightly meeting of the Druids, over which P.A. Hro. T. Lind presided, P.D.P. liro. J. W. Batchclor gave an interesting account of tlie proceedings at. the Druids' conference at Marton, which Bro. Batchelor attended as a delegate. The linal competitors for the Frcsli Food and Ice Company's trophy took place on Saturday on tho local rifle range. The following dubs also competed for the cup on Saturday afternoon:—Levin, Haulers, Wereroa, Paraparaumu, and Ngatiawa. S' , Some of tho settlers in tho northern part of Moutoa, Marotiri, are endeavouring to influence the Education Board to erect a school in the locality, their contention ■ being that the distance to tho Moutoa or.Foxton schools is too great for tho smaller children. At a meeting hold last week at which tho chief inspector was present, it was decided to ask the board to erect branch school.
