GAS COMPANY'S PICNIC.
'— « The employees of the Wellington Gas Co., Ltd., held their annual picnic- at Maidstone Park, Upper Hiitt, on Saturday last, and experienced beautiful weather. About ICO attended, including the company's officials:—Messrs. W. Ferguson (iiianc.qing director), A. 'Daugall ('Piigiiic-pr), ,1. H. Eelliwcll (secretary), C. 13. Norwood (fitting department), J. Kershaw (service department). The sports resulted as follow.— lODvds. Handicap (open to employees),— F. Hook, 1; B. Cameron, 2. 120 yds. Three-legged Kace.— J. Maun aud \V. Adams, 1; A. Hawthorne and S. Morrell, 2. . Bun and Treacle Competition.— J. Campbell, 1; A. Price, 2. Half-mile Handioap-H. Boden, 1; C. Billmcer, 2. Single Women's Walking Race.—Miss Ward, 1; Miss Johnson, 2. JJhl Men's Race (over 15 years).— J. •'VUIsiV 1; M. Green, 2. , Marrjed Women's Walking Knee.—Mrs. Cirpjtor.t 1; Mrs. Coward, 2. Tus-ol'-war.—Won by the stokers' team. Oiis Company's Handicap (220yds.).— J. Mann, 1; B. Cameron, 2. Women's Guessing Competition.—Mrs. Kmden, 1; Mr<. 2. Employees' Guessing Competition.—E. Savers. Numerous races for the children were also held, supervised by Messrs. A. Davis and J. Thomas. The company's orchestra, under Mr. J. W. Glennio, conductor, played a programme of delightful mu.-ic. Toys were freely distributed among the children.
