Tho Petone Workingmen's Club havo decided to erect a new • building. The structure is to be of bn'ck, and will have two stories. A prize of .£SO is being offered for the best design, with specifications. It is understood that a building costing something like .£3OOO is required. ■ .A sitting of the Lower Hutt Magistrate's Court wm held yesterday morning. Mfssrs. G. A. Chapman and J. Cudby, J.P.'s, occupied the bench. In the following civil cases judgment for plaintiff was given by. default . for outstanding rates:—Fliitt Borough Council v. Hector v. V. G. Vercoe was adjourned till March 18. ■At .1.30 yesterday morning a fire broke out in a five-roonwl villa in Pretoria Street. Lower Hiilt, owned and occupied by Mr. Ed.rar Prior, th« wollknown coal merchant of Potono. The outbreak was first discovered in tatween the lining of the kitclion and dining-room.
